Melissa Hodges is a cheerleader for the NFL‘s Tennessee Titans. She is also a full-time molecular neuroscience researcher who is working toward a career in medicine. Yes, you read that correctly. She is currently cheering on Sundays, working in labs during the week, and attending Vanderbilt University as a grad student while single-handedly changing the stereotype of cheerleaders along the way.
Other cheerleaders she knows have successful careers in many other professions that you wouldn’t necessarily think cheerleaders would involved in such as advertising and law. She says that just because they like to dance and cheer doesn’t mean that they aren’t smart, intelligent people, and they’re trying to break that stereotype one-by-one.
